When moving, there’s so much going on that it’s very easy to overlook simple things. Since it will be a very lengthy and complicated process, you should always make sure that you covered all the basics. When booking a move, we usually don’t think twice about getting additional information. To avoid booking the wrong company, always make sure to ask the right questions. Don’t feel bad or ashamed while doing it. Moving is a very stressful process and you should do your best to make it as least stressful as possible. Below you’ll find some important questions to ask when booking a move.

1. What Kind of Liability Coverage Do You Offer?

Although most legit moving companies offer some kind of liability insurance, not all of them offer the same packages. You have to make sure you’re covered in case something goes wrong. Most companies offer one of these options: limited liability, added valuation, and full value. Limited liability is required by law, and it’s free of charge. Here, the moving company is responsible for 60 cents per pound of items. Added valuation allows you to collect the amount based on the current replacement value, minus depreciation. Charges for this type of insurance may vary based on the worth you declared your belongings to be. Lastly, full value insurance is usually the most expensive, but the most inclusive too. This type covers the exact price for items’ replacement or repairs. This is an important question to ask, so don’t overlook it.

2. Are There Any Extra Fees I Should Know About?

This is another important question to ask. The last thing you want is surprise charges at the end of your move. Some extra fees that companies might charge for include fee for stairs, long carry charges, truck fee, travel fee, etc. This is a significant question to ask in order to avoid any unpleasant surprises.

3. If There is a Loss or Damage to My Belongings, How Long Do I Have to File a Claim?

This is an important question to ask because most companies have a deadline when it comes to filing claims. According to law, you have up to nine months from the date of delivery to file a claim. One thing a lot of customers don’t know is that you don’t have to wait for a claim form by the moving company. Just make sure not to go over the said nine months, otherwise, your claim will be marked as untimely.

4. What Documentation Will I Receive Before the Moving Day?

This is another very important question to ask before your moving day. Make sure to ask about contracts, commitments, as well as the moving itinerary. Ask what you must sign or take along with you during the move. Of course, make sure to read everything carefully before signing anything. Contracts should contain all the important information that you should know. Some of those include a bill of lading, additional costs, as well as explanations about what you’re being charged for and how much. Make sure to always have those documents with you, just in case something comes up.
