The Ultimate Connecticut Moving Checklist
From your local moving team (yes, we’ve seen it all) If you’re getting ready to move to or within Connecticut first of all, welcome (or welcome back)!
Whether you’re heading to the shoreline, a cozy New England town, or somewhere in between, there’s a lot to love here—and a lot to juggle during a move.
As a local moving company, we’ve helped hundreds of people settle into their new CT homes. So we put together this practical checklist to help you stay organized and keep your sanity intact
4–6 Weeks Before Your Move
Let’s start early—it makes everything easier.
- Book your moving crew (hopefully, that’s us!)
The earlier you reserve your date, the better—especially if you’re moving in spring or summer when schedules fill up fast. - Start decluttering.
Not everything needs to come with you. Trust us, Connecticut basements can fill up fast. Donate, toss, or sell what you don’t love or use. - Start collecting boxes and supplies
- Notify important parties
Your landlord, your kids’ school, your employer, and anyone else who needs a heads-up.
2–3 Weeks Before Moving Day
It’s getting real—time to get serious about packing.
- Pack by room, label clearly.
Use room names and quick notes like “fragile” or “open first.” Future you will be grateful. - Change your address.
USPS, banks, subscriptions, etc. - Transfer or schedule utilities.
Set up electricity, water, internet, and gas at your new place. In CT, that’s usually Eversource, Aquarion, Southern Connecticut Gas, or Xfinity. - Make a plan for pets and kids on moving day
Moving can be a little chaotic. It helps to have someone watch the little ones, furry or human.
1 Week Before
Almost there!
- Pack your “essentials” box
Include snacks, meds, chargers, a change of clothes, toiletries, and anything you’ll need right away. This box rides with you. - Confirm all the details with us
We’ll double-check timing, addresses, and parking so you don’t have to worry about a thing. - Do a final walk-through
Make sure closets, drawers, and storage areas are empty.
Moving Day!
Time to make it happen.
- Be ready when the crew arrives
We’ll take it from there. Seriously—relax, breathe, and let us do the heavy lifting. - Do one last sweep before locking up
Once everything’s on the truck, take a moment to say goodbye to your old place. (It’s okay to get a little nostalgic.) - Settle into your new space
We’ll unload with care and place things where you need them. If you labeled well, unpacking will be a breeze.
After the Move
You’re home. Now what?
- Unpack the essentials first: Kitchen, bathroom, clothes, and comfort stuff
- Explore your new neighborhood: CT is full of hidden gems – coffee shops, trails, beaches, diners. Go find yours.
- Reach out if you need anything else: Whether it’s storage, another small move, or just advice, we’re here to help.
