How to Move with Pets
Moving is a big change for pets. Careful planning can make the transition easier for them.
Schedule a Vet Visit
Check your petโs health before moving. Update vaccinations, get a copy of their medical records and ask about calming options if your pet is anxious.
Prepare a Pet Essentials Kit
Pack food, water, bowls, medications, leash, waste bags, bedding and favorite toys. Keep enough supplies for a few days.
Stick to Routine as Much as Possible
Consistency reduces stress. Keep feeding, walking and play times the same before, during and after the move.
Secure a Safe Space on Moving Day
Keep pets in a quiet room with the door closed or arrange for a friend or pet sitter to care for them. This prevents escapes and reduces stress from all the noise.
Ensure Safe Travel
Use a sturdy carrier or harness for the car. Plan regular breaks during long drives. Never leave your pet alone in a parked vehicle.
Help Them Adjust After the Move
Set up a familiar space in your new home right away. Give them time to explore slowly and reward calm behavior.
