How to Prepare and Move a Glass Coffee Table
A glass coffee table isn’t just another piece of furniture. It’s where you rest your morning coffee while the house is still quiet. Itâs where friends gather for long chats or game nights. Maybe it’s where your favorite books pile up or your cat claims a sunny spot. So when itâs time to move, itâs not just about protecting glass – itâs about bringing a small part of home with you.
Before touching the table, clear the area around it. You want space to move without bumping into other things. Remove anything on top – books, coasters, remotes. Give the table a quick wipe so itâs clean and easier to grip.
If your table has a removable glass top, take it off. This makes things easier and safer. Donât try to carry the whole table with the glass still attached – itâs too risky. Check for clips, screws or suction pads holding the glass in place. If the top doesnât come off, move slowly and protect it well.
Use bubble wrap, moving blankets or thick towels to wrap the glass. Donât skimp – wrap it fully and tape it tightly so nothing shifts. Put cardboard around the corners for extra protection. Once wrapped, slide the glass into a flat box or use a picture-frame box if it fits. Mark it as âfragileâ on every side.
If the base or legs come off, take them apart. Fewer big pieces make it easier to move and load. Bag the screws or bolts and tape them to one of the parts so you donât lose them. If the table doesnât come apart, wrap the whole thing well and carry it carefully.
Glass tables arenât just heavy – theyâre also slippery. Always carry the glass upright, never flat. If itâs flat and hits something, itâs more likely to crack. Use gloves for a better grip and padding underneath if youâre placing it in a vehicle.
In the truck, place the glass on its side between soft, sturdy things like mattresses or couches. Donât stack anything on top. Use straps to keep it from shifting during the ride. If youâre moving it in a car, make sure itâs snug and wonât slide if you brake hard.
Unwrap it slowly. Donât rush. Check for any damage. If you took the table apart, reassemble it and make sure everythingâs tight and level. Once it’s back in place, youâll be glad you took the time to move it right.
If the tableâs extra valuable or you just donât feel confident moving it yourself, call in help. Movers with experience like us, handling glass will know how to pack and move it without risk.
