There’s a lot to think about on moving day. Emotions run high as you look around at the vase you bought when you first moved in, the scent of fresh flowers still in your memory, the painting in the living room or the good china your grandmother gave you when you turned 18. These items carry meaning and the thought of damaging them can be stressful. But with the right steps, you can protect your fragile and valuable belongings and avoid unnecessary costs.

First of all, forget about the newspaper (it can leave ink stains). Choose high quality materials like sturdy boxes, bubble wrap, foam sheets and packing paper. Remember not to overuse them. Carefully choose your favorite option and tape them. Packing tape should be strong enough to hold everything securely in place.

For delicate items like ceramics, glass or collectibles, use the double-boxing method. First, wrap the item and place it in a small, well-padded box. Then, place that box inside a larger one with more padding around it. This adds an extra layer of protection against drops or pressure.

A tight fit is a safe fit – start with a layer of padding on the bottom. Place your items inside and fill any gaps with crumpled packing paper, foam sheets, or bubble wrap. Make sure nothing shifts when you gently shake the box.

A common mistake is packing plates and glassware flat and mixing them with other items in the box. Instead, pack them vertically – upright like records, with padding between each one. On the other hand, wrap glasses individually and place them standing up in the box. This reduces stress on the items and helps prevent cracks.

Don’t forget to properly name the boxes. Mark each side of the box with “Fragile” and “This Side Up.” Use a bold marker or pre-printed labels. This alerts movers to handle the boxes with care and helps them know how to stack and transport them.

Besides, always keep small valuables with you. Carry items like jewelry, important documents, cash, passports and portable electronics yourself. These shouldn’t go in the moving truck. It lowers the risk of loss and gives you peace of mind.

And finally, document the condition of valuable items by taking photos from different angles. If something breaks during the move, these images can help with insurance claims or disputes. You’ll also have a record of how things were assembled or displayed.

When it comes to moving fragile and valuable items, careful packing is just one part of the process. You also need a team that knows how to handle them with care. Our movers are trained to treat your belongings with the attention they deserve. So, you can focus on the next chapter – knowing everything is in safe hands.
