Grills and patio furniture are easy to overlook during a move – until you’re stuck figuring out how to lift a heavy grill or keep cushions from blowing away. These aren’t just outdoor extras. They’re part of your everyday routine, from quick breakfasts to evening get-togethers. With the right prep, you can move them without hassle and settle into your new space feeling right at home.

Start With a Good Clean-Up

Grills and outdoor furniture sit outside all year. Before you move them, give everything a good scrub. Empty the grill’s grease tray, brush off the grates and remove leftover charcoal or propane. Wipe down chairs and tables so you don’t bring dirt and bugs into the truck or your new home.

Detach and Disassemble

Take off whatever you can. Pull out the grill grates, drip pans and remove the propane tank. Unscrew table legs if possible. Fold the chairs down and take off cushions or covers. Put the small grill parts in a plastic bag or box and label it so you can find everything easily later.

Pack the Grill Safely

If you’re moving a gas grill, always take off the propane tank first. Carry it standing up, by itself, and follow your area’s safety rules. For the grill, wrap it with a moving blanket or bubble wrap to protect the outside. Use stretch wrap or a bungee cord to keep the lid shut. It also helps to tape on a quick note so people know to handle it carefully.

Wrap and Stack Outdoor Furniture

Cushions and fabric covers should go in large plastic bags or boxes to stay clean and dry. Stack chairs together and wrap them with moving blankets to prevent scratches. Glass-top tables should be wrapped with extra care. Use bubble wrap, corner protectors and place them upright (like a mirror or picture frame) in the truck.

Loading Tips

Put heavier items like the grill closer to the front of the truck so they don’t shift. Use straps to secure everything. Don’t stack anything on top of furniture or the grill, even if it looks stable. One sudden stop on the road and something could get dented or smashed.

Don’t Forget About Weather

Moving on a sunny day? No problem. But if there’s rain in the forecast, make sure everything is wrapped in waterproof material. Wet cushions or rusted metal are the last things you want to deal with on move-in day.

Moving Help Makes a Difference

If your grill is large or your outdoor set is heavy, consider hiring help. It saves time and keeps you from pulling a muscle trying to get it all down the porch steps. At Seka Moving & Storage we can also help wrap and load items the right way so nothing shifts or breaks in transit.

Settle Into Your New Backyard

Once you’re in the new place, take your time unwrapping things. Put the grill parts back where they belong, wipe down the tables and chairs and get everything into place. After a long move, having your outdoor space ready is a great way to relax and feel settled again.
